To mark the launch, K9 Route is introducing its Founding Operator Programme, offering qualifying early licensees a five-year guarantee that their base annual licence fee will not increase during their first five consecutive licence years, subject to the terms of their agreement.
A Different Approach to Dog-Walking Franchising
Unlike conventional franchise arrangements that may require substantial initial investment and continuing percentage-based royalties, K9 Route has adopted a fixed-fee licensing structure intended to make participation accessible to both established dog walkers and individuals seeking to build their own local businesses.
Bill White, Director of Kestrel Assets Limited, the company that owns the K9 Route brand, explained the thinking behind the initiative.

"At £299 a year, we are deliberately keeping the barrier to entry low. An operator who builds a successful business should enjoy the financial rewards of that success. We do not believe they should have to surrender an increasing proportion of their turnover simply because their business is growing."
Founding Operators Receive Five-Year Price Protection
The Founding Operator Programme is a central feature of K9 Route's national launch.
Qualifying operators who join under the programme will secure their annual base licence fee at £299 plus VAT for five consecutive licence years, provided their licences remain continuously renewed and in good standing.
The guarantee applies to the base licence fee, with optional products and additional services priced separately.

Each licensed operator will have access to the K9 Route brand and a dedicated local online presence, with the network's digital infrastructure designed to support customer registration, bookings and ongoing service management.
The model also incorporates opportunities for operators to earn commissions on eligible pet products purchased through the K9 Route platform.
Importantly, operators will remain independent businesses rather than employees of K9 Route.
"Our ambition is not to replace independent dog walkers with a centrally controlled operation," White explained.

The company intends to develop its network through a structured territorial allocation system, allowing available operating areas to be identified and licensed through a consistent national framework.
Although the immediate focus is the UK, the K9 Route brand and technology strategy have been developed with the potential for international expansion.
