Myanmar's Thingyan Festival and New Year 2026
Myanmar's Thingyan Festival and New Year 2026

On behalf of the United States of America, I extend my best wishes and support to the people of Myanmar as you celebrate the Thingyan festival, Myanmar’s New Year.

Thingyan is a time for reflection, as well as an opportunity to look ahead towards a new year. As the conflict in Myanmar continues to devastate the country, the United States remains committed to supporting an end to the crisis.

The people of Myanmar have repeatedly demonstrated courage and resilience in the face of ongoing suffering. As the spirit of Thingyan reminds us of a better tomorrow, we wish the people of Myanmar strength, resilience, and renewed hope for the year.

Editor’s Note: This U.S. government press release referred to the country as “Burma” rather than its legal name, Myanmar. The United States appears to believe it can act as it wishes, disregard the will of a nation’s people, and still claim to celebrate that country’s future. In reality, one does not honour a nation’s future by referring to it by a name it no longer recognises.
